Welcome to the Second Chancery Court District serving Jasper, Newton and Scott Counties with courthouses in Bay Springs, Paulding, Decatur and Forest. Chancery Court handles, among other things, the following matters:
- Divorce
- Child Custody
- Wills and Estates
- Guardianships and Conservatorships
- Lunacy
- Drug and Alcohol Commitments
- Real Property Issues
- Annexation and Incorporation
- Youth Court
The great majority of Chancery matters are non-jury. Appeals from Chancery go to the Mississippi Court of Appeals or to the Mississippi Supreme Court. The Chancellor has charge over the Youth Court and commitments for lunacy and drug and alcohol abuse. In this District, those matters are initially heard by a Special Master in each county.
